Will StyleEase work with Word 2007?
|
|
The latest releases
of StyleEase includes complete Word 2007 functionality, and
features a StyleEase tab on the Word ribbon. We are completely compatible with Word 2007.
To enable our functionality in Word 2007, you must trust (enable) our macros, which are securely signed with a digital certificate from Thawte. Telling Word to trust our macros is quick and easy, and is described here.
All previous
versions of StyleEase work with Word 2007 in Compatibility Mode.
All of our functionality is available, and you can access
our menu via the Add Ins tab.
Please contact us for more information. To receive the update,
you can download the latest
version via a link in the confirmation email you
received at the time of purchase. |

How do I enable macros so that StyleEase will work? |

|
What is this about trusting the StyleEase macros or the StyleEase digital certificate?
|
|
StyleEase includes a verified (by Thawte) digital
certificate that you can choose to trust.
In Word 2003 and earlier: To trust our
certificate, click the Always trust macros from this
publisher checkbox in the Security Warning screen that
Word displays. If
you have not selected that checkbox, then you'll need to enable macros whenever you
create or open a StyleEase document.
In Word 2007: You can add StyleEase to your
list of trusted publishers in the Office menu, which you can
click at the top left of every Word 2007 window.
The easiest way to trust our
certificate in Word 2007 is: when you create a new StyleEase document,
click Options in Word's security warning. At the bottom of
that screen, click the Always trust this publisher button,
then click OK. If you are not presented with this option,
you can go into Word's Security options (via the Office
menu) and tell Word to only trust macros that are signed
with a certificate from a trusted publisher. |

|
I cannot click on the Options button on Word to enable StyleEase macros. When I start a new document, it's blank. |
|
In some instances, Word 2007 does not provide you with the opportunity to access the Options button when it displays a macro security warning (as described in the previous section), and thus it becomes impossible to trust our digital certificate.
We have not been able to determine why this happens, and it makes it impossible for users to enjoy the benefits of StyleEase, so we have discovered a workaround for this problem. Please follow these steps:
| 1. |
Click on the Office button in the upper-left corner of your Microsoft Word window. The Office button looks like this:
|
| 2. |
Click Word Options in the bottom of the Office window that displays. |
| 3. |
Click AddIns from the left pane of the Word Options screen. |
| 4. |
At the bottom of the AddIns screen, select Templates from the Manage drop-down list, and click Go. |
| 5. |
In the Templates tab of the Templates and Add-Ins screen that displays, click Add.
Now browse to the location of the StyleEase template, which defaults to C:\Program Files\StyleEase (unless you customized this location during installation).
Select the StyleEase template. For APA Style, this is StyleEaseAPA.dotm (for Office 2007) or StyleEaseAPA.dot (for earlier versions of Office). If you're using MLA, look instead for StyleEaseMLA.dotm, or for Chicago style, look for StyleEaseCHI.dotm. |
| 6. |
Click OK. Word adds the StyleEase template to your list of allowed Add-Ins, and you can use all of the StyleEase features. |
|

|
I receive a runtime error or "File cannot be found" message when attempting to create a new StyleEase document.
|
|
This probably means that you’ve installed StyleEase in a location other than the default C:\Program\Files directory, and something went wrong. Try reinstalling in the default location. |

|
Why has the digital certificate been revoked? Why I am I being told this software has expired?
|
|
If
you have recently upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 you may
get a message that StyleEase's digital certificate has
expired or been revoked.
This was a temporary problem caused
by the release of Internet Explorer 7 and changes made by
our digital certificate signer, Thawte. The problem is now fixed, and
our digital certificate works properly to ensure your safety.
If you
have an old download, please use the link in your
confirmation email to redownload and reinstall StyleEase. |
 |
How do I enter electronic references in the APA version?
|
| |
To create a reference to an online document or other item in StyleEase for APA Style is just like creating any other reference, except that you must also specify the online retrieval information. StyleEase uses three steps to simplify this:
| 1. |
In the first screen, you specify the online information, such as the URL of the document and the date on which you retrieved (or viewed) the document. |
| 2. |
In the second screen, you select which kind of reference you want created in your paper; for example, you might be referring to an online version of a book or other publication, or an online recording, or online proceedings from a conference. |
| 3. |
The final screen is the standard StyleEase reference entry fields screen. |
|

|
How do I use StyleEase with a pre-existing document?
|
|
You can use StyleEase with an
existing document, as described in the Help system. Here's a brief
synopsis:
| 1. |
Create a new StyleEase document with appropriate sections. |
| 2. |
Copy the existing document—one section at a
time—into the StyleEase document. |
| 3. |
Apply formatting to the text you have copied
into the document. |
This converts your existing document into a StyleEase document
and allows you to take advantage
of all of the StyleEase features. Note, however, that StyleEase cannot automatically correct any formatting
problems in preexisting reference entries. |

|
Word 2000 crashes when I try to reopen a document.
|
|
Virtually all instances of Word crashing
when using StyleEase can be resolved by downloading the latest Word
updates from Microsoft http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx.
Download the Word updates, and then reinstall StyleEase. |

|
Why am I seeing error messages (such as Error 75) when creating a new StyleEase document on Windows Vista?
Why is my database not working on Windows Vista?
|
|
The answer to both of these questions is the same: you need to update your copy of StyleEase. Please send a request to support@styleease.com. |

|
The StyleEase installer finished with an error message and did not create a new document. Do I need to reinstall?
|
|
There's no problem with the installation of StyleEase on your computer, and there's no need to reinstall. This is a file permissions issue on Vista, and the only problem it causes is that the installer itself cannot create a new StyleEase document. You can use the Windows Start menu to create a new StyleEase document. |

|
Does StyleEase work on Mac OS? |
|
At this time, only StyleEase for APA Style works on Macintosh computers. Our other products do not work on the Macintosh.
To use StyleEase for APA Style on a Macintosh, you must have Word 2004 and you must be running Mac OS 10.2.8 or later. StyleEase does not work with Word 2008.

|
Can I change the spacing or numbering of footnotes in the Chicago or Seminary product? |
|
Yes! Some schools want the first footnote on a page to be closer to the footnote separator line; you can do this by following these steps:
| 1. |
Make sure you are viewing your document in Normal view or, in Word 2007, Draft view. |
| 2. |
Select Footnotes from the View menu or, in Word 2007, display the References tab of the ribbon and click Show Notes. |
| 3. |
Word displays the View Footnotes dialog box. Click on the View Footnote Area radio button and then click on OK. |
| 4. |
Using the Notes drop-down list at the top of the Footnotes window, choose Footnote Separator. Word displays the current separator in the window. |
| 5. |
Highlight the separator line, and then change the font size of that paragraph to a very small number (try 4 or 6). That’ll snug the footnote up closer. |
| * |
If you need to reset footnote numbering (some institutions want the first footnote on each page to be number 1), change the numbering style toward the bottom of the View Footnotes dialog box. |
Note that you must have at least one footnote in your document to display the View Footnotes dialog box in Word. |

|
